Tempo Sheet №2 · Dance fitness, 50 minutes
A tempo skeleton for a 50-minute dance-fitness class: the BPM band for each song slot, the rhythm family that usually lives there, and the count structure to build choreography on. It works with any licensed catalogue, including the Apple Music tracks that ZIN Play will not label with a BPM.

| Block | Min | BPM band | Count / feel | Position | Cue |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Warm-up merengue | 4 | 120–128 | Marching 8s, 1:1 | Low impact | Step-touch on every beat; arms join on the second 32. |
| Salsa | 4 | 90–100 (½) · 180–200 | Break on 1 and 5 | Mid | Count the pattern in halves; the fast hi-hat is not the step. |
| Reggaeton | 4 | 90–100 | Dembow, hits on 1 and 3 | Mid | Grounded, bouncy; build a 4 × 8 combo and repeat it through the chorus. |
| Cumbia | 4 | 100–110 (½) · 200–220 | Step on every beat of the half | Low → mid | Read it at half-time; the double reading is a trap. |
| Soca / Afrobeats | 4 | 112–124 | Groove 8s | Mid | Big travelling moves; change direction every 16. |
| Pop peak 1 | 4 | 124–132 | Jumps on the drop | High | Save the jump combo for the drop; march through the verse. |
| Peak | 4 | 138–150 | Fast 8s, low option | High | Highest tempo of the class. Show the low-impact option first. |
| Recovery song | 4 | 100–110 | Sways, 1:1 | Low | Let heart rates settle before the second peak. |
| Pop peak 2 | 4 | 128–136 | Repeat peak-1 combo | High | Familiar combo, faster track: the class feels the progression. |
| Toning | 5 | 96–110 | Squat on 1, hold 2–4 | Floor / standing | Tempo sets the rep speed; keep it under 110. |
| Cool-down | 5 | 70–90 | Stretch, free | Stretch | Last chorus is the final stretch. |
Notes
- Latin rhythms are the octave trap: salsa, cumbia and merengue all carry fast percussion that reads at double tempo. Beatpin shows ½ and 2× beside the lock, so a 190 reading is also a 95 you can count to.
- ZIN Play labels BPM for its own catalogue but not for imported Apple Music tracks. Read those off a speaker once and write the number in the track notes.
- Choreography sits on 32-count phrases. Watch for 16-count bridges and tags in pop edits; they break a combo that assumes 4 × 8.
Filling it in
Put the phone on the desk, play each candidate track from any speaker, and press Listen. The provisional number appears in a few seconds and locks with a decimal; the ½ and 2× chips beside it are the other two readings of the same pulse. Range: Auto, or Upbeat · Trance for the 138–152 peak so the lock cannot fall to half-time. Write the locked BPM against the track, and drop the track into the block whose band it falls in.
Beatpin's free tier keeps your last 15 reads in Library, which is enough for one sheet. Pro keeps every read and adds the key and Camelot code beside the tempo, which makes the transitions between blocks smoother when you care about that.
