Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 June 2026
Beatpin is built to need as little of your data as possible. It analyses sound on your device to detect tempo, keeps your settings on your device, and has no accounts, analytics, advertising, or trackers.
The short version
- Audio is analysed on your device to detect the beat. Beatpin does not record it or upload it for tempo detection.
- Song recognition is optional and off by default. When you turn it on, Apple's ShazamKit creates an acoustic fingerprint of the audio and sends it to Apple's Shazam service to identify the track. Beatpin never receives your raw audio.
- No account, no analytics, no ads, no third-party trackers. Settings and your matched-track history stay on your device.
Who this applies to
This policy covers the Beatpin iOS app and this website ( beatpin.app), both provided by Carrotly Pte. Ltd. (UEN 202212557Z), a Singapore company with its registered office at 160 Robinson Road, #14-04, Singapore Business Federation Center, Singapore 068914. The website is a static marketing and support site; it sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts.
Permissions we request
Beatpin asks for one permission: access to your microphone, so it can hear the music. That's the only system permission the app requires. iOS prompts you the first time; you can change it any time in the iOS Settings app, and the app keeps working for everything except live detection if you decline.
Microphone & audio
The microphone audio is processed in real time, on your device, purely to estimate tempo (BPM). It is not stored, recorded, or transmittedby Beatpin as part of normal use — it exists only in memory for as long as it takes to analyse, then it's gone.
Song recognition (ShazamKit)
If you enable song recognition, Beatpin uses Apple's ShazamKit. ShazamKit derives a compact acoustic fingerprint from the audio and sends that fingerprint to Apple's Shazam service to find a match. This processing is handled by Apple and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and the Shazam service terms. Beatpin receives only the resulting match details (such as title and artist), which it stores locally in your Tracks history. Recognition requires a network connection; it is off by default.
Session recording (optional)
Beatpin includes an optional, manually-enabled “Record session” feature for offline analysis. When you turn it on, the audio the detector hears is saved as a file on your device (visible in the Files app under On My iPhone › Beatpin). These recordings stay on your device under your control and are not uploaded by Beatpin. Delete them any time from the Files app or the in-app Recordings list.
Data stored on your device
- Your preferences (range, color scheme, toggles).
- Your matched-track history (title, artist, artwork link, time).
- Any session recordings you choose to make.
This data lives only on your device — there is no Beatpin account and no Beatpin server holding a copy. It stays until you remove it: clear it in-app (Tracks › Clear, or the Recordings list), or delete the app to remove all of it at once.
Network connections
Beatpin makes a network connection only when:
- you have turned on song recognition— to send the ShazamKit fingerprint to Apple's Shazam service; or
- you tap a link that opens elsewhere— such as a matched track in Apple Music, “Rate on the App Store,” or this website in your browser.
There are no background uploads, no telemetry pings, and no third-party SDKs phoning home. With song recognition off, Beatpin works fully offline.
What we collect: nothing
Beatpin's App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected.”Its bundled privacy manifest declares no tracking, no tracking domains, and no collected data types; the only “required-reason” API it uses is local storage of your own settings. We do not build profiles, and there is no advertising identifier in play.
What we do not do
- No user accounts or sign-in.
- No analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking.
- No advertising and no ad identifiers.
- No selling or sharing of personal data — there is none to sell.
Apple's role
Beatpin is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple may process some information in connection with your download, purchase, and (if you opt in) crash diagnostics shared with developers, under Apple's Privacy Policy. Any crash or diagnostic data we can see through Apple is aggregated and not personally identifying. We do not receive your personal information from Apple.
Your choices & rights
Because Beatpin holds no personal data on any server and has no account system, there is nothing on our side for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf — your data is on your device and entirely under your control. Depending on where you live (for example under Singapore's PDPA, the GDPR, or the CCPA), you may have rights over data Apple processes; exercise those with Apple directly. If you have any question about your privacy with Beatpin, email us using the contact below.
Children
Beatpin is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and post the new version here. Material changes will be reflected in the app's release notes.
